Recently discovered this fantastic photographer from New York City, named Randy Scott Slavin.

These are from his ‘Alternate Perspectives’ series of photographs. He takes photos in a 360 degree perspective, makes them look as though they’re digitally made, not actual places.

Look at this website www.randyscottslavin.com for loads more photos. Well worth a look.
This is a must read. I’m now pretty much following all these blogs now. These are the 40 best Tumblr blogs for designers by Sammy Maine on www.creativebloq.com.

Flew up to Edinburgh, Scotland last weekend to see some friends. Its the best city I have ever been too, absolutely loved it. This is the view from the top of Arthur’s Seat.

Is it sad that I’m quite excited that Pantone has revealed 336 new colours today?
The colours will be numbered 2001 though to 2336, this is from a free download PDF from the Pantone website:
Pantone is committed to continually deliver essential color inspiration and innovation to creatives and color professionals. Designers consistently demand more colors to differentiate their work and stand out in a crowded marketplace. Pantone created the 336 New Colors with this in mind, expanding all color ranges to offer designers greater creative freedom.

I designed this logo at work a few weeks ago for a lady opening a kitchen shop. The lady already owns a store called The Olive Tree, and she changed the name of the kitchen shop after a week or so to The Olive Tree Kitchen Co. and kept the logo pretty much identical as The Olive Tree.
So this logo was never used. Although I really like it (which is very rare for me).

I was hoping to convince her to use all three of these logos as one identity. Just use a different one each time for whatever she had printed (stationary, labels, signs, etc.) Unfortunately it never got that far.

My bro (his Tumblr) has started selling his illustrations on t-shirts. He’s got a few on their now but more will be on there soon. They are really awesome, so please purchase one if you’re interested.
Please reblog if you like what you see.

This is what I got Jenny (her Tumblr) for Christmas. I know Christmas was a while ago, but we’ve not long found a way to view the photos.

Its a Sprocket Rocket, named because it used the entire film, including around the sprocket holes. Lomography make some awesome cameras.
Because it uses the whole film, we have us a negative scanner to view photos. We don’t have the correct mask to get the sprocket holes, but heres a few of the scans.

Here is the Sprocket Rocket microsite: http://microsites.lomography.com/sprocketrocket/whatare
I know a lot of people already have heard of Lomography, but if you haven’t: http://www.lomography.com/

Page fell out my sketchbook, blogged it.
I had my job before I finished my degree course and graduated. I’ve always found that working as a designer is pretty much exactly the same as college, except for the time frames. Same process that you go though in order to get the best outcome, but condensed into a couple days, sometimes hours, instead of weeks. I fell out the habit of sketching because I though it was too time consuming.
Now, I try and sketch everything before going to the computer. Logos, layouts, etc. For me the best ideas come out of sketching. I’m not the best artist in the world, but its just about getting the idea down, and I’m the only one who needs to understand it after all.
As more pages inevitably fall out, I’ll scan some more in.

Currently reading this fantastic book. Just My Type by Simon Garfield. I love design books (nerd). As brilliant as blogs and websites are, books are just better somehow.
I think this book is a must for graphic design students. I wish this book was available when I wrote my dissertation.
Great book, and (unlike most design books) its not very expensive. Only a tenner. Unsure if I’m allowed to put a link to it for sell on amazon.co.uk… put just Google it, you’ll find it.
Designed this logo last year in work. Quite an exciting moment as its the first logo I’ve designed thats been trademarked.

No Bull Car Care Ltd. Named such because of their products don’t contain any bull shit, hence, no bull. When the customer first told me the name I thought he meant ‘Noble’, meaning upperclass, admirable, or being a product of excellence.
I’m quite chuffed with the way it turned out. The customer wanted it simple and straight-to-the-point, not to suggest any thing special so that it matched the product in the sense that it was easy to use with no messing around. The more I look at it, the more I like it. I think it looks better in print than on screen.
As its been trademarked, I got to do my first proper logo guidelines.

Also designed and printed the labels for the bottles. Which also, keeping with the ‘no bull shit’ theme, don’t have fuss or confusion.
Final labels are 80mm x 120mm, full colour, printed 20 up on sticky back vinyl.
And lastly, designed and printed business cards for him as well. Again, no bull shit. Sorry for the poor photo quality.

Business cards are litho printed full colour, double sided, 85 mm x 55mm, printed on 400gsm matt laminated board.
Pembrokeshire was recently voted one of the best coastlines in the world. Hopefully this picture shows you why.

My logo. On a hoody. Awesome.
Should I have the Ben Rees Graphic Designer bit on it too? Unsure. Definitely going to have more printed though.
Printed by Jenny (her tumblr) at St Brides Bay Clothing.
I love typefaces and typography, so its always nice when you can get a free one.

Its also nice when you can get the background behind a typeface. Why its been made, what influences they had, who they spoke too, etc.
